Course Philosophy

Create an understanding of the product design process and its relationship with manufacturing and cost.

Objectives

  1. Indicate the role of Concurrent Engineering in reducing “Time to Market” a new product.
  2. Emphasize the importance of Market Driven Design in CE.
  3. Describe methods for developing a Product Design Specification based on QFD.
  4. Describe the Conceptual Design Process.
  5. Provide techniques of Design Evaluation Techniques.
  6. Apply guidelines for improving component manufacture and product assembly at the conceptual and detail design stages.
  7. Recognize the influence of process, material and tolerances on component and product cost.
