About
A new scientific research group, xrLab, was established at Business and Technology University under the leadership of Alexander Sharmazanashvili in 2026.
The primary mission of xrLab is the development of real-scale virtual reality environments supported by AI-driven technologies, designed to create immersive cognitive experiences for a wide range of audiences, including engineers, physicists, educators, students, artists, and business professionals. The group brings together a team of young and highly motivated specialists dedicated to advancing innovation at the intersection of XR and artificial intelligence.
xrLab aims to establish and expand international R&D collaborations with CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, the Zwickau University of Applied Sciences Computer Science Group in Germany, and the XR Laboratory at Volvo Cars. The research group will also actively utilize the XR Laboratory and AI platform at Business and Technology University.
As part of its international research activities, xrLab has already contributed to a collaboration agreement with the ATLAS Experiment at CERN. Under the agreement, the parties will collaborate on the development and implementation of Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence technologies for the ATLAS detector systems, including the Calorimeters, Muon System, ITK, Magnets, and Infrastructure. partnership also includes the development of ATLAS educational exercise applications for the International Masterclasses program.
