Construction of the Atlas Detector Mock-Up
Project Responsables:
from CPPM Marseille: Dirk Hoffmann
from Center: Alexander Sharmazanashvili
Year : 2008
The purpose of the project was to construct a 1:50 scale mock-up of the ATLAS detector using stereolithography technology. The CATIA Center developed and provided the 3D CAD model of the ATLAS detector, incorporating the necessary cutouts for fabrication. The model was specifically designed to minimize the bill of materials for cost efficiency while ensuring the high mechanical stability of the mock-up. The design work was carried out jointly at CERN and the Centre de Physique des Particules de Marseille (CPPM).
The mock-up was manufactured from polymer materials by Protometal Co. in Paris using stereolithography technology. It was presented during ATLAS Week in Bern, Switzerland, on June 8, 2008.
