WP#04/2010-2012 Comparison of Existing GeoModel/Geant4 Geometry with CATIA Geometry and make Correction of Volumes into Packages used in ATLAS Software

Collaborative partners: University of Pittsburgh

  1. Geometry description of detector in ATLAS Software exists in 2 representations: Geant4 for simulation and GeoModel for rest of the tasks. It contains volumes mainly built from theoretical dimensions. Also there is no description of services and support structures
  2. There is an engineering database, smearTeam were geometry description is more precise and detailed built on the CATIA base
  3. In some cases CATIA models are also approximative while contains general envelopes for integration conflict checking purposes
  4. There is CDD database where detailed 2D drawings are stored.

Considering above stated issues activities as follow are foreseen:

  1. Retrieve Geant4 cavern background geometry description from Stanford database and export it to CATIA
  2. Built integrated CATIA model from smarTeam database; partly re-built 3D models from 2D CDD drawings
  3. Make comparison between Geant4 and CATIA models; identify difference in volumes and make study of relevance
  4. Generate Geant4 C++ codes from CATIA geometry; make local testing and submitting to SLAC
  5. Retrieve GeoModel geometry description and export it to CATIA
  6. Make comparison between GeoModel and CATIA models; identify difference in volumes and make study of relevance
  7. Generate GeoModel C++ codes from CATIA geometry; make local testing and submitting to relative groups
