Lecture at the IT STEP Academy

Professor Alexander Sharmazanashvili was invited to the IT STEP Academy to deliver a lecture on CERN’s modern technologies. He was joined by his colleagues Giorgi Bokhochadze and Besik Kekelia.

The lecture was divided into two parts. The first part focused on CERN particle physics experiments, their objectives, and the knowledge they contribute to the field of High Energy Physics (HEP). The discussion also covered detector technologies and IT challenges related to HEP, such as Big Data analysis.

The second part addressed geometry modelling technologies, highlighting integrated approaches and geometry simplification methods used in engineering, physics analysis, and outreach activities.

During the opening ceremony, participants were welcomed by the Rector and the management team of IT STEP Academy. The event was attended by over 100 students.

Following the lecture, Giorgi Bokhochadze organized a virtual tour of the ATLAS detector using Quest headsets and an application developed on the VRChat platform.

Professor Alexander Sharmazanashvili also presented his book, “Geometry Modelling in HEP”, published for CERN and available at the CERN Library. A total of 20 copies were donated to the IT STEP Academy Library.
