GTU (Georgian Technical University) hosted international particle physics masterclass Hands on Particle physics.
Hands on particle physics is huge international masterclass and its main aim is to popularize particle physics, masterclass is involving 52 countries and more than 200 universities or research centers, which gives opportunity to youth aged 15-19 to unravel the mysteries of particle physics. Lectures from active scientists give insight in topics and methods of basic research at the fundaments of matter and forces, enabling the students to perform measurements on real data from particle physics experiments themselves.
In the morning children were greeted by representatives of GTU, this was followed by virtual tour around CERN(European Organization for Nuclear Research) where they had opportunity to get a look how things work at CERN and ask questions to people already working at CERN. After virtual tour they had session of lectures about particle physics and ways we detect them. Lastly participants did a practical work on the data which was specially provided for masterclasses by CERN moderators.
Besides Georgian Technical University masterclass was hosted parallelly in Marseille, Cape Town UCT and Madrid IFT. At the end of the day participants had a chance to ask questions to CERN moderators and do a little quiz, after this they received IPPOG International certificates.
Locally event was organized by IPPOG representative in Georgia MIRZIASHVILI Keti and Georgian Engineering Team (GET).
