LIFTING DOWN OF END-CAP TOROID

Heaviest part of ATLAS detector, so called End CAP Toroid (ECT) was landed today in its final position, 82.5m underground where rest of Detector is situated. ECT with its high ~11m and weight 280tonnes was constructed at CERN by Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Netherlands, collaborative partner of ATLAS.CAD/CAM engineering center made preliminary checking of ECT lifting down path. Dynamical conflict checking calculations in CATIA V5 were done. Results were under strong consideration of ATLAS technical coordination team while collisions and critical clearances were detected and as a result some already installed structures of Detector were disassembled
